The 20-character LEI is divided into segments identifying the issuing authority and the unique company identifier, with check digits for validation.

• Characters 1-4: LOU Identification Code
• Characters 5-6: Always set to '00'
• Characters 7-18: Unique to the entity
• Characters 19-20: Check digits
